Drop Dead Gorgeous is a 1999 comedy mockumentary film following a group of young girls in the fictional town of Mount Rose, Minnesota. They have all applied to compete in the Sarah Rose Cosmetics Mount Rose American Teen Princess Pageant, but the problem is that someone would literally kill to win.
A true gem, this cult classic remains one of my favourite ’90s films – the satisfying ending to see karma bite back is the cherry on top.
Written by Lona Williams and directed by Michael Patrick Jann, Drop Dead Gorgeous was released in June 1999, and shockingly didn’t make its budget back at the box office.
The film starred up-and-coming and already established actors including Kirstie Alley, Ellen Barkin, Kirsten Dunst, Brittany Murphy, Denise Richards, Amy Adams, and Allison Janney.
For a film filled with such ugliness and murder, this single Drop Dead Gorgeous tattoo I found is absolutely beautiful.

This stylised piece by Roberto Euán (@goldlagrimas on Instagram) is representative of the moment when Kirstie Alley’s character believes she has gotten away with her crimes, and her daughter (Denise Richards) is making her first appearance as the pageant winner. Just mere moments later the float explodes in flames, killing the daughter and revealing the mother’s truly evil actions to the entire town.
Rather than looking at the float in utter horror, you’ll look upon this tattoo in awe of how beautiful it is.
