Arthur is an American-Canadian animated television series based on the children’s picture book series created, written and illustrated by Marc Brown. The show premiered on PBS in October 1996 and came to end in February 2022, after 253 episodes.
The title character, Arthur Reed is an anthropomorphic aardvark who lives in the fictional city of Elwood city with his parents, two younger sisters (D.W. and Kate), and his dog, Pal.
Arthur shares some similarities with Mickey Mouse and his friends in that there’s a variety of anthropomorphic animals, and yet there’s a pet dog (Pluto) that doesn’t talk or act like a human.
Arthur airs in 83 countries and has been so successful as the show deals with real-life issues to educate its young viewers. After 25 years on the air, Arthur is considered the longest running children’s animated series in the US. When it comes to the longest running animated series in any genre, The Simpsons currently holds that title.
Now that I’ve got the Arthur theme tune (performed by Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers) stuck in my head, click on the video below and sing along while you take a look at these tattoos.
