For me, viewing these tattoos is like looking in a mirror.
The smooth-head blobflish, or blobfish for short, is found in deep waters off the coast of Australia and New Zealand. There’s a possibility, given their location, that I may be related.
A blobfish measures up to 30cm and lives 600-1200m below sea level. They’re described as a gelatinous mass which eat crustaceans. Blobfish are often inadvertently caught be ocean trawlers fishing for crabs.
How blobfish appear on land differs vastly from their appearance underwater – their body shape changes depending on water pressure, or lack thereof.
Blobfish have exploded in popularity in recent years, mainly in part to them becoming the mascot of the Ugly Animal Preservation Society, and receiving the unofficial title of the world’s ugliest animal. There are blobfish shirts, plush toys, and artwork being sold by various brands and independent artists.
When it comes to tattoos, the only decent ones I found both happen to be more in the kawaii style. I would love to see more blobfish tattoos, especially ones in the realism or new school styles.
Do you hate birthdays just as much as these blobfish? You’ll either really love or hate these blobfish tattoos. Maybe these pieces will encourage you to treat yourself to a new tattoo when you’re another year older.
