The Wolf Man is a 1941 American horror film and is now considered to be a part of the Universal Classic Monsters media franchise. The film was deemed a success and was followed by a further four sequels.
Unlike many other monster films (or even Disney), The Wolf Man wasn’t inspired by, nor was it an adaptation of, an existing literary piece.
Like vampires, if someone were to be attacked by a werewolf and survive, they themselves would then turn into a werewolf. In The Wolf Man, the character of Larry Talbot is attacked and wounded by a wolf, but by the following day, he’s completely healed – if only tattoos healed so quickly!
In the decades since the film’s release, depictions of werewolves have all been loosely based on the Wolf Man character.
