Are These Malibu Stacy Tattoos Really Any Good? Don’t Ask Me, I’m Just a Girl.

Malibu Stacy was a doll featured in The Simpsons (Season 5 – Episode 14) in response to the Teen Talk Barbie doll released by Mattel in 1992.

Each Barbie spoke four different phrases out of a possible 270. Approximately 1.5% of Barbies produced were programmed with the controversial phrase, ‘Math class is tough.’

For a doll meant to empower and inspire children to grow up and choose any career, the doll was viewed as deameaning and promoting damaging stereotypes in regards to the intelligence of women.

“Lisa vs. Malibu Stacy” aired in February 1994 and had the Malibu Stacy dolls programmed to say sexist phrases such as “Don’t ask me, I’m just a girl” and “Thinking too much gives you wrinkles.”

Lisa took her fight directly to Malibu Stacy’s creator and former owner, Stacy Lovell and together they created a Lisa Lionheart doll. Sadly, Malibu Stacy was repackaged by the company and all except one child in The Simpsons universe was shown to choose to remain loyal to Malibu Stacy.

If you share Lisa’s sentiments then a ironic Malibu Stacy (or a serious Lisa Lionheart) tattoo is a must.

So, are these tattoos really any good? Don’t ask me, I’m just a girl…
