In “Homer’s Phobia” (Season 8 – Episode 15), The Simpsons writers intertwined their usual sense of humour with an important anti-homophobia message. The entire episode revolved around gay themes. John Waters voiced the character of John, an antiques dealer.
The Simpson family befriends John until Homer is made aware that he is gay. Worried that John could negatively influence Bart, Homer goes to the extreme by forcing his son to participate in “manly” activities.
Homer eventually comes to his senses and lets (a totally oblivious) Bart know that he’ll love him no matter what.
