In Australia, some brand (potentially Uncle Toby’s muesli bars) ran a promotion with Tamagotchis as the prize, and I happened to be one of the lucky winners. I still have it (somewhere) and now I’m tempted to put in a new battery and hatch a new virtual pet.

Over the past 20-plus years the Tamagotchi has expanded into anime and film, in addition to numerous Nintendo and PC games.
