These Clam Shell Tattoos Are All Guaranteed to Contain Pearls

Given the soaring temperatures in Australia this summer, let’s take a dip and head down under the sea. We’re not looking for fish or crustaceans, but the jewels of the sea: pearls.

Almost all mollusks are capable of producing pearls, but it is generally those from oysters that are considered valuable and are used in jewellery. Pearls can be found in the wild, or are farmed for commercial purposes.

When it comes to tattoos, a clam is usually the shell paired with a pearl, probably due to their symmetrical and aesthetically pleasing shape compared to that of an oyster. Pearls come in just about every colour of the rainbow and have a certain lustre and iridescence which lends them so perfectly to the kawaii tattoo style.
