Margaret “Maggie” Evelyn Simpson shares her first name with The Simpsons creator, Matt Groening’s sister.
Maggie and Maggie’s connection doesn’t stop there: in 1991, Matt and Maggie collaborated on four children’s books, with Maggie writing the stories and Matt doing the illustrations.
The character of Maggie did originally talk in the shorts from The Tracy Ullman Show, however, in The Simpsons animated series, it wasn’t until Season 4 – Episode 10 that Maggie was heard saying her first word. In the episode titled “Lisa’s First Word” Elizabeth Taylor voiced Maggie, and since then she has also been voiced by James Earl Jones, Jodie Foster, and currently, Nancy Cartwright.
My favourite Maggie moment in The Simpsons is when Homer decorates Maggie’s birthday cake and misspells her name as “Magaggie.” What’s yours?
While Maggie doesn’t get involved in as many storylines as other characters, due to her being a baby, there’s sure to be a certain moment from a particular episode which will inspire your own Maggie Simpson tattoo.
