Living in a shack on the school grounds, Groundskeeper Willie is the janitor at Springfield Elementary School. His first appearance in The Simpsons was in Season 2 – Episode 14 titled “Principal Charming.”
Matt Groening based Groundskeeper Willie on Jimmy Finlayson (a Scottish actor from Laurel and Hardy films) and Angus Crock (a character from Second City Television – a sketch comedy show). Voiced by Dan Castellaneta, Willie was trialled as being Spanish or Swedish before they settled on his Scottish heritage.
