Can you believe that the film, Sister Act is 30 years old?
In 1992’s Sister Act, Whoopi Goldberg plays Deloris Van Cartier, a lounge singer in Reno who, after witnessing her boyfriend committing murder, is placed in witness protection until the court trial.
Given the alias of Sister Mary Clarence, Deloris hides out in a convent where she struggles to lead a quieter life so far removed from her own. Going back to her roots, Deloris joins and eventually leads the choir, putting a spin on traditional hymns.
Released in May 1992, the film was a huge success and the Sister Act soundtrack went Gold.
Sister Act the musical hit the stage in 2006. In 2011 it made its way to Broadway where it closed the following year after 561 performances.
A couple of years ago, Whoopi Goldberg revealed that Sister Act is potentially becoming a trilogy. This recent article from Vanity Fair reveals some more information about the project.
After the disappointment of Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, do you want to see Sister Act 3 made?
Despite not a being church-goer, Sister Act remains one of my favourite films and soundtracks. Are you inspired to get a Sister Act themed tattoo?
