Don’t worry, these images are completely safe for work.
There are six species of boobies, including the masked booby, and the red-footed booby (that has a blue beak and red feet), although I’m only focusing on the booby of the blue-footed variety.
They are seabirds, and it’s their diet of fresh fish that is the cause for their blue feet; the males love to show off their feet to attract a female mate.
Like most seabirds, the blue-footed booby is quite a clumsy bird – it is this characteristic that inspired their name. Booby is derived from the Spanish word bobo that can mean “stupid” or “clown”.
Blue-footed boobies are predominantly found along the coast of Central and South America, with their largest population on the Galápagos Islands. The birds are known to be fearless of humans, which likely explains the number of candid photos of them on Instagram.
Will you be booking a trip to South America to see some blue-footed boobies in the wild, or will you be booking an appointment for your own booby tattoo?
