Colourful and Nostalgic Tattoos to Celebrate 40 Years of Rainbow Brite

Like many characters and toys we remember from our childhoods, Rainbow Brite was another media franchise that captured our attention and our imaginations through dolls, a television series, and a feature-length film.

Rainbow Brite was created in 1983 by Hallmark Cards, with the television series and Mattel merchandise following in 1984.

Rainbow Brite had her horse, Starlite and her sprite, Twink, but the show (and merchandise range) also included a huge cast of characters – more than there are colours of the rainbow. Each of Rainbow Brite’s friends – referred to as the Color Kids – were a different colour of the rainbow, with differing personality traits, and each had their own personal sprite.

Over the past two decades, Rainbow Brite has been rebooted several times yet has failed to reach the level of success of other licensed franchises such as the Care Bears and My Little Pony. While the sales waned long ago, the nostalgia lives on; if tattoos are anything to go by, Rainbow Brite remains a beloved character to many.
