Released in 1988, Heathers is a film starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater (and Shannen Doherty before hitting it big in Beverly Hills, 90210 and Charmed). The film follows a group of four girls – three of which are named Heather – and the series of messed up events and murders which take place at their high school.
Many films are said to be similar to Heathers but the same can be said about the similarities in Heathers to that of Massacre at Central High.
The dark comedy received critical acclaim, however it didn’t lead to bums in seats at the cinema and failed to make back its budget at the box office.
In the three decades since, Heathers has grown a cult following, which lead to the development of a television series of the same name. Heathers lasted only a single season as it managed to air at a terrible time when there were a number of mass shootings in the U.S. The season consisted of ten episodes, but several were pulled from airing and could only be viewed on the Paramount Network website.
