Are You Gutsy Enough to Get a ‘Brave’ Tattoo?

2012’s Brave is a Pixar produced computer animated fantasy film set in the Scottish Highlands, although, the main character, Merida is not your typical Disney/Pixar princess. Everyone likely has their own opinion and analysis of the film – I see the kingdom as a metaphor for society as a whole and Merida reflects the desires of many women to defy social expectations and the patriarchy.

Although she technically co-directed Brave with Mark Andrews, the film’s story creator and co-writer, Brenda Chapman became the first female director of a feature-length Pixar movie. Brave won the Academy Award, the Golden Globe, and the BAFTA Award for Best Animated Feature Film, amongst many others.

Merida is the star of both the film and these tattoos, although the witch does make an appearance also. Many of these Brave pieces are in the illustrative watercolour style, similar to that of Merida’s wild locks, but don’t be afraid to venture out into your tattoo style of choice. Be bold and brave!

Three original tartan patterns were created for Brave – you may wish to incorporate one of them into the design (similar to that of these Clueless tattoos) or, if you happen to be Scottish, you could even add a personal element with your own family’s tartan.

Which of these top 10 Brave tattoos is your favourite?
