Marigold plants are native to Europe, but like so many botanical varieties, they can be found elsewhere around the world. Marigolds love sunny locations and the flowers themselves come in sunny shades of yellow, orange and red; perhaps this is why they’re thought to symbolise that same strength and light of the sun found within yourself or another person. Marigolds also have a connection to lost love, being symbolic of the powerful love connection that once was.
It’s just by pure coincidence that most of these tattoos are in the traditional style. Some may view traditional tattoos as simplistic, but the minimalist style is where their beauty lies. As the old adage goes: if it is bold, it will hold.
If traditional isn’t your favourite style, don’t be afraid to approach your chosen artist – one who tattoos in your preferred style and has examples of botanical work in their portfolio – and ask for a marigold tattoo.
The tattoo process is painful to most so you’ll need to harness your inner strength during your appointment. It will all be worth it when your inner light matches the light and sunny marigold tattoo on your exterior.
