Next year will mark 40 years since Gremlins was released and the world was introduced to Gizmo the mogwai. The film premiered the same weekend as Ghostbusters and the same year as A Nightmare On Elm Street.
Rumours have been swirling of a Gremlins 3 movie for years, and apparently a script has been written. The premise actually sounds interesting, and Chris Columbus describes it as “twisted and dark” – just how the original film was meant to be. As the creator of the characters, Columbus wants minimal CGI used and to stick with the puppets as much as possible. We can only hope that this film moves into production because we’ve waited more than long enough – Gremlins 2: The New Batch was released back in 1990.
Gremlins is probably one of only a handful of horror film franchises where the villains aren’t the most common tattoo choice. A quick scroll through the images below and you’ll see that there are plenty of the gremlins – in both their furry mogwai and their mutated form from both the films – but mogwai, Gizmo certainly features heavily. In fact, I’ll be sharing even more Gizmo tattoos in a future list.
When it comes to owning a mogwai, there are three important rules to follow, all of which somewhat correlate to the tattooing:
A mogwai shouldn’t eat after midnight, but you should ensure that you’ve eaten and are hydrated before (and during) your tattoo appointment;
You and a mogwai should avoid bright lights/the sun – it’s deadly for them, but for you it’s to avoid sun damage; and
A mogwai should never get wet. While you should keep your new tattoo clean to avoid infection, you shouldn’t be going swimming or having baths (showers only) until your tattoo is healed.
What will you choose for your tattoo: Gizmo or his mogwai spawn, a generic gremlin or a version from Gremlins 2?
