Born Destiny Hope Cyrus in 1992, her (now legal) name of Miley was inspired by her childhood nickname, Smiley. Miley burst onto the scene in 2006 as the titular character on Disney Channel’s, Hannah Montana; a character which she portrayed until 2011.
In the decade since leaving Disney behind, she has eight studio albums to her name, with her latest, Endless Summer Vacation, released just days ago.
I’m too old to have watched Hannah Montana, but in more recent years I have become a fan of Miley’s music – “Younger Now,” “Slide Away” and “Midnight Sky” are some of my favourite songs. I also frequently find myself listening to her her covers of Blondie’s “Heart of Glass” and “Maneater” by Daryl Hall and John Oates.
Growing up in the spotlight isn’t easy when every word and action is photographed or reported on – Miley’s not a perfect person, but neither are any of us. Over the past (almost) two decades, she’s been villiainsed, shamed, and judged by the world, and yet she remains unapologetically herself.
Miley has a vast collection of micro black and grey tattoos herself, including a tiny jar of Vegemite. I suggest something bolder to ensure longevity, but it’s ultimately your choice which style you settle on. Having spent the majority of her life in the public eye, what era of her style and musical evolution will inspire your own Miley Cyrus tattoo?
Just like Taylor Swift (and most female celebrities), Miley is often under constant mass and social media scrutiny about her relationships, fashion choices, and appearance. As tattoo collectors, we can relate to how strangers judge the choices we make about decorating our bodies in such a permanent manner.
Don’t allow anyone to shame you for getting a Miley Cyrus tattoo. Be sure of the the exact style you want, find an enthusiastic, talented tattooer, and be unapologetically (tattooed) you.
