After stints in ECW and WCW, Chris Jericho made his WWF debut during the Attitude Era, interrupting The Rock on the August 9, 1999 episode of Raw is War – or should I say RAW is Jericho?

Jericho’s first match in the then-WWF was on the inaugural episode of SmackDown! and he won his first title at Armageddon 1999 where he defeated Chyna to become the Intercontinental Champion – a title which he’s held a record nine times. Jericho went on to become to first-ever Undisputed WWF Champion at the end of 2001.

With his many successful runs across all the major promotions, Jericho’s innate ability to get an entire arena of people to either cheer or boo him, depending on when he’s a face or a hell, and how he can captive the crowds whether he’s on the microphone or wrestling in the ring, undoubtedly makes him a legend of the industry.

When I attended WWE’s 2002 Global Warning Tour (is it really a tour when it was a single event?) in Melbourne, Australia, I so vividly remember the 50,000-plus attendees chanting that Jericho was a wanker.
