A signature bake on the Great British Bake Off (GBBO), these Battenberg cakes are tattooed to perfection by these British artists.
Also referred to as Domino cake, Neapolitan Roll or Church Window cake, Battenberg cake consists of sponge cake in a pink and yellow check pattern, a jam filling and a marzipan coating.
Spelled either Battenberg or Battenburg, this cake has origins in the 19th century. Some dispute still remains over the cake, but it was thought to have been created for the marriage of Princess Victoria to Prince Louis of Battenberg in 1884.
There appears to be just any many names for this cake as there are tattoos. Call it what you will, but there’s not disputing that these pieces look good enough to eat!
