Courage the Cowardly Dog is an animated horror comedy show which aired on Cartoon Network from 1999 to 2001. Created by John R. Dilworth, the pilot originally aired in 1996, and was so well received that it was nominated for an Academy Award. Looking for new shows to add to their lineup, Cartoon Network commissioned Courage the Cowardly Dog to series. It ran for four seasons and 52 episodes in total.

Following his parents being sent to space by a crazy veterinarian, Courage was found all alone as a little pink puppy. Muriel Bagge took him in to live with her and her husband, Eustace out in the middle of Nowhere, Kansas.

An anthropomorphic dog, Courage straddles the line between being a coward and being courageous. The show implements child-friendly humour while dealing with the likes of aliens, vampires, demons and zombies. Viewers can relate to how, despite being afraid, they can find the strength to protect ourselves and the ones they love.

Many ’90s cartoons are difficult to find on physical media, but Courage the Cowardly Dog was one of only a few to have a complete series DVD release. Sometimes it feels that getting a tattoo is less painful than trying to recapture and collect everything we enjoyed when we were younger.

Aside from the Powerpuff Girls, Courage the Cowardly Dog is certainly one of the most popular Cartoon Network shows in tattooing.
