Growing up in Australia, with an abundance of British shows airing on television, my youth was shaped by actors, musicians and comedians, so I thought I’d celebrate some British (and Irish) icons through the brilliant tattoos of Matt Youl.
Working at Painted Lady Tattoo Studio in Birmingham, England, Matt Youl specialises in neo traditional portraits. His talent also extends to tattoos of any pop culture figures from film, television, cartoons and music. You’ll also occasionally see a black and grey realism portrait pop up in his Instagram feed.
With the amount of portrait tattoos I see daily, so many of them are American-centric; I’d would love to see even more British icons celebrated.
The Black Books and Father Ted tattoos are my personal favourite Matt Youl pieces. Which British icon would you add to your tattoo collection?
