I don’t want to play a game with you, but I do have this collection of Billy the Puppet tattoos to share.
After this morning’s Top X Saw Tattoos list, I decided Billy deserved one all of his own.
Never actually referred to as Billy, or any name, in the Saw films, it was actually James Wan, Saw’s director and co-writer who dubbed the puppet Billy, and the name was adopted by the cast and crew, and now the fans of the franchise.
From the beginning, Billy has been used by John Kramer to communicate via recorded message to his victims/test subjects, detailing why they’ve been chosen and what they must do in order release themselves from the trap they find themselves in.
Growing up being haunted by the likes of Chucky from Child’s Play and Slappy from the Goosebumps books and television show, Billy has always been the creepiest element of the Saw films for me despite being an inanimate object. The animatronic Billy cycling in on his tricycle always sends shivers down my spine.
Outside of the horror genre, Billy the Puppet has made more than a couple of appearances in popular culture, from wrestling, to TV’s The Office, and several animated series including The Simpsons, The Cleveland Show, and The Fairly OddParents, so it’s the perfect opportunity to ask your chosen tattoo artist for some sort of a mashup tattoo.
Haunting or spoopy, colour or black and grey, a single piece or part of a larger tattoo, what plans do you have for a Billy the Puppet tattoo? Keep scrolling to be inspired and be introduced to a number of potentially new to you tattoo artists.
