Glo Worms (Glow Worms in Australia) hit store shelves all the way back in 1982. Released by the Playskool brand (a division of Hasbro), a Glo Worm was a plush toy in the shape of a worm, thus confirming that it truly is possible to make anything appear cute and cuddly.
Wearing pyjamas, Glo Worms acted somewhat as a portable night light for little kids as the vinyl head would glow when the toy was squeezed.
Anything that was created for children in the ’80s and ’90s was never just a toy as they would be followed by a television series (Glo Friends, which was a segment airing during My Little Pony ‘n Friends), books and a huge range of merchandise – Glo Worms were not exception.
The toy line was expanded to include Glo Friends comprising of insects and other creatures. The small vinyl toys glowed in the dark, however there was no plush element which distinguished themselves from the original Glo Worm.

Glo Worms never did quite reach the same popularity as other toys of its time, however their consistent sales have meant that they have been produced and sold every year since their creation. While those of you reading this have memories of either you or friends owning a Glo Worm, there are children out there getting their very first Glo Worm.
The just over 40 year old toy is not nearly as popular for tattoo collectors compared to other vintage toys like Care Bears or its television counterpart, My Little Pony, so your choice to get a Glo Worm is certainly unique and you’ll have yourself a rare piece.
