Don’t Wait Until the Afterlife to Get a ‘Beetlejuice’ Tattoo

If you say “Beetlejuice tattoo” three times will one just magically appears on your skin? You won’t find an answer here, but there are Beetlejuice tattoos to be seen.

Released in cinemas the year I was born (1988), the cast of the Tim Burton directed film features actors from so many of my – and maybe also your – favourite ’80s and ’90s movies: Michael Keaton, Geena Davis, Alec Baldwin, Catherine O’Hara, and Winona Ryder.

Tim Burton movies such as Beetlejuice, Batman, Batman Returns, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Edward Scissorhands shaped my childhood; it’s actually shocking that I’ve yet to add a Tim Burton tattoo to my own collection.

With a story by Larry Wilson and Michael McDowell, the latter writing the screenplay with Larry Wilson, Beetlejuice follows the efforts of the recently deceased Adam and Barbara as they attempt to frighten the new owners of their home, the Deetz family, into leaving. Failing to achieve their goal, and going against advice given by Juno, their caseworker, Adam and Barbara enlist the assistance of Beetlejuice with chaotic consequences.

Following the film’s success, an animated series was produced and ran for four seasons from 1989 to 1991. An MS-DOS Beetlejuice game was released in 1990, followed by one for the NES and the Nintendo Game Boy in 1991 and 1992 respectively.

36 years after the original, there’s a sequel on the way with Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice set for release in less than a week, and several of the original cast are returning to reprise their roles. Have you purchased your tickets yet?

If only were it as simple as saying his name three times for your Beetlejuice themed tattoo to appear on your skin; sadly, it’s going to be as painful as spending an eternity in the afterlife with Beetlejuice himself.
