Come On Over if You Want a Christina Aguilera Tattoo

Where are all the Xtina fans at? Certainly not at the tattoo parlour, that’s for sure. There’s next to no Christina Aguilera tattoos (even bad ones) compared to Britney Spears or boy bands like the Backstreet Boys and NSYNC – that’s a real travesty.

Christina Aguilera had her big break in 1993 on the Mickey Mouse Club beside Britney Spears, Ryan Gosling and NSYNC’s Justin Timberlake, until 1994 when the show was cancelled.

With her incredibly powerful voice, Christina was selected to sing “Reflection” for Disney’s 1998 animated film, Mulan. Her self-titled debut album was released the following year.

A Spanish language album titled Mi Reflejo (featuring original songs and some re-recorded songs from her first album) and My Kind of Christmas were both released in 2000. Of course we all remember her cover of Labelle’s “Lady Marmalade” alongside Pink, Mya and Lil Kim for the Moulin Rouge soundtrack – that music video is iconic!

Stripped saw an edgier side of Christina as she revealed herself with piercings and tattoos, along with her alter ego, Xtina. Christina co-wrote many of the songs on the album which saw a number of successful singles. A further five albums have followed since 2002’s Stripped.

With her debut self-titled album turning 25 this year, Christina has managed to sell over 100 million records throughout her career, and won five Grammy Awards and one Latin Grammy Award. She has mentored contestants on several seasons of The Voice and even got to co-star with Cher in Burlesque.

With a habit of changing her look and sound with each album, you could compare Christina to tattoo artists. Each piece a tattooer creates can be vastly different in terms of size, placement, theme, but those with such a signature style are instantly recognisable. With Christina and her powerful voice, you know it’s her no matter the musical genre of the song she’s singing.

As with any band or musician, a tattoo can be inspired by obvious references to their album cover art, music videos, or images from photo shoots (because they certainly do enough of them); you might like an image their shared on their Instagram, or there’s a concept you’ve developed from the lyrics of a chosen song. Whatever you do, remember: Be Inspired. Never Copy.
