There’s No Face Hugging or Chest Bursting Required to Get an ‘Alien’ Tattoo

Even 45 years later, the chestburster scene in Ridley Scott’s Alien film that killed Kane (played by John Hurt) remains one of the most iconic moments from the science fiction horror film, and in all of movie history.

Like so many film franchises, it’s rather convoluted where each of the Alien movies fit in the timeline versus the date of their theatrical releases. In total there are four films in the original Alien series, released between 1979 and 1997: Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, and Alien Resurrection. 2004 and 2007 saw Predator and Xenomorphs battle in Alien vs. Predator and Alien vs. Predator: Requiem. The three most recent additions begin with the prequel to the entire franchise, Prometheus and its sequel, Alien: Covenant, followed by this year’s Alien: Romulus which takes place between the events of Alien and Aliens.

With a (current) total of nine films, there’s certainly more than enough hours of visual imagery to inspire your own Alien themed tattoo. Choose your movie, select your character or creature (or Xenomorph form), decide on a tattoo style and then you can begin creating a short-list of tattoo artists suitable for the job. I’ve typed the word “alien” so many times that the word now seems alien to me.

Just a glance of the Xenomorph designed by H. R. Giger is enough to send shivers down your spine, but do these tattoos have the same effect? Tattoos are painful (more for some than for others) but at least there’s no face hugging or chest bursting levels of pain required to get an Alien tattoo.
