When I was a kid, if it wasn’t The Baby-Sitters Club books I was reading, I was stealing my brother’s Goosebumps books to read.
Created and written by R.L. Stine, there’s 62 books in the original Goosebumps series which were published 1992-1997. After a hiatus from the series for most of the 2000s, the books returned in 2008 and are currently still being published. With over 200 Goosebumps books, there’s several spin-off series such as Goosebumps HorrorLand and Goosebumps SlappyWorld.
1995 saw the premiere of the Goosebumps television series. It ran for four seasons, with many of the episodes being adaptations of the books. When that theme music played, literal goosebumps soon followed, especially if it was a Night of Living Dummy episode – Goosebumps‘ Slappy and Child’s Play’s Chucky haunted my dreams when I was young.
Jack Black portrayed a fictionalised version of R.L. Stine in both theatrical films: Goosebumps in 2015 and Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween in 2018.
In recent years, Goosebumps returned to the small screen, with a 10 episode season 1 streaming on Hulu and Disney+ 10. They’re back with season 2, Goosebumps: The Vanishing, in 2025 with David Schwimmer (Friends) a main character.
With over three decades of Goosebumps content, from books, television/streaming shows and movies, a Goosebumps tattoo may be found on the body of collectors young and older. What book or character in the series would you get tattooed on your body?
