These Doink Tattoos Will Leave You Seeing Double

Two years following the television miniseries adaptation of Stephen King’s IT, the then WWF introduced a new wrestler by the name of Doink the Clown. Originally portrayed by Matt Borne, Doink made his first appearance on the Halloween 1992 episode of WWF Superstars. In subsequent weeks, he made it his mission to play tricks on wrestlers and fans alike.

A confrontation and attack on Crush in January led to the pair facing off at WrestleMania IX, resulting in that infamous moment of double Doinks mirroring one another.

Only a year after debuting, Borne was fired and the Doink the Clown gimmick was shared between Steve Keirn and Steve Lombardi for over a decade.

Outside of the WWF, Borne made several appearances in ECW where he went by Borne Again. He painted variations of the original Doink face paint, either a simplified version without the full white base, or just the one side of his face – similar to current day Dustin Rhodes (FKA Goldust).

Many a wrestler have donned the face paint, wig and ring gear to disguise themselves as Doink in WWE. Other Doinks also make appearances on the independent wrestling circuit, much like all the new versions of Kane popping up lately on social media.

With so many versions of Doink the Clown, which will be the inspiration for your tattoo? You could do a split face tattoo of Borne’s original Doink, with the other side being another wrestler to portray Doink, such as Chris Jericho or CM Punk. You could do the split face style with Doink and Pennywise, or even go one step forward and do a mashup with your favourite visual elements of both clowns.

These Doink tattoos will leave you seeing double and hopefully give you a good chuckle, as any clown should.
