‘Silent Night, Deadly Night’ Tattoos Are Uncensored and Uncancellable

40 years on from the release of the controversial Christmas film, Silent Night, Deadly Night, it has been announced that a reimagining is set to be released in time for the 2025 festive season.

Opening the very same day as A Nightmare on Elm Street, the movie was performing well before ultimately being pulled.

You think “cancel culture” and “Karens” are a new thing? People protesting things they don’t like has been happening for decades. The outrage occurred mainly due to the advertising campaign and the time the television commercials aired. Parents complained that their children were now terrified of Santa thanks to Silent Night, Deadly Night. Due to its R-rating, children under 17 could not even go to the cinema to watch the movie, but that didn’t detract the protestors.

I imagine many a parent has photos at home of their crying child forced to sit on the knee of a shopping centre Santa, but no one’s complaining about that, are they?

Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2 performed so poorly at the box office that it didn’t even make back its $250,000 budget. Was this again due to parents and picketers? No, it was likely due to one third of the film’s runtime being padded out with flashbacks and stock footage from the first film. The failure of the 1987 sequel saw the third film, Silent Night, Deadly Night 3: Better Watch Out get a direct-to-video release in 1989.

The next two installments are part of the franchise but are both standalone stories with no returning characters. Over two decades after Silent Night, Deadly Night 5: The Toy Maker, Silent Night, a loose remake of the original, received a limited theatrical run in 2012.

There was an attempt to remake Silent Night, Deadly Night a couple of years ago, but it was rejected and then eventually released as Christmas Bloody Christmas.

With just a year to wait for the official Silent Night, Deadly Night remake, will you be spending your time saving for and getting a tattoo inspired by the original or one of the other installments in the franchise? Your tattoo appointment will certainly be stress-free as there (likely) won’t be any people there protesting your choice of body art.
