I’m a little late, I know, but November 1st was National Cinnamon Day, so I’ve put together a collection of my favourite tattoos featuring cinnamon sticks.
You might think that a cinnamon stick is an odd choice for a tattoo, but being a key ingredient in pumpkin spice, it’s actually more a common tattoo choice than that of some pop culture characters.
Cinnamon is a spice harvested from the inner bark of some species of trees in the genus Cinnamomum. It’s either sold in its natural bark/stick form, ground up into powder, or processed into an essential oil. You may have seen that it is sometimes referred to as cassia, but only if derived from the species Cinnamomum Cassia.
75% of all the world’s cinnamon is produced in Indonesia and China. Cinnamon is a rich source of Vitamin K, Iron and Calcium, but only in large quantities; we all know how the Cinnamon Challenge went, so it’s probably best to just stick with a sprinkle on your food.
Cinnamon is (obviously) used in cinnamon rolls, and everyone’s favourite fall product: pumpkin spice. It is also often an ingredient in chocolate in Mexico, and can be used in sweet and savoury drinks and dishes such as soups, curries, and for pickling foods.
What’s your favourite use for cinnamon?
If you’re a cinnamon fiend then perhaps you should consider adding a couple of cinnamon sticks to your tattoo collection.
