In just three short months it will officially mark 35 years since the premiere episode of the Mark Frost and David Lynch created television series, Twin Peaks.
Without going into too much detail (and possibly including spoilers for those of you yet to see it), the series is essentially a murder mystery where solving the crime isn’t so simple. The involvement of FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper, following the discovery of homecoming queen, Laura Palmer’s body, reveals complex characters, secrets, double lives and strange occurrences in the small (fictional) town of Twin Peaks, Washington.
The surrealist horror show sadly didn’t capture audiences during its initial run, with Twin Peaks cancelled in 1991 at the conclusion of season 2. The following year saw the release of the feature film, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me.
Despite not being a commercial success at the time, Twin Peaks went on to amass a cult following that transcended generations, which eventually led to the show’s reboot in 2017 for season 3.
Twin Peaks falls into many genres, including mystery, drama and horror, with dialogue and a narrative that could only come from the mind of David Lynch. Just like Lynch created this series from an idea he had, tattoo artists do the same when you provide them with a tattoo concept.
I never did get around to watching the Twin Peaks reboot – it’s on my overwhelming long watchlist. Upon hearing the sad news of Lynch’s passing, aged 78, there’s probably many who, like me, will be binge watching the show right from the beginning. But before you do, fire walk with me and discover the crazily talented artists behind these Twin Peaks inspired tattoos.
