Once you see these The Blob tattoos, you’ll want one of your own. Before long, you may be consumed by the need to completely cover your body in tattoos.
The Blob, a science fiction horror movie, was released in 1958. A meteorite crashes in a Pennsylvania town where it breaks open and is shown to contain an unknown slime-like substance. The townsfolk soon learn that the Blob has an appetite for living beings, becoming redder and larger as it consumes more victims. Eventually, the Blob is subdued with CO2 fire extinguishers as it cannot withstand cold temperatures, before being transported to the Arctic.
The Blob was Steve McQueen’s first leading role. With a $110,000 budget, it made $4 million at the box office. It received largely negative critic reviews, but was popular with filmgoers.
In 1972, Beware! The Blob sequel was released. It was also known by several different titles including Beware the Blob, The Blob II, The Blob Returns, and Son of Blob. The Blob is discovered at the North Pole and brought back to Los Angeles where it wreaked havoc.
30 years after the original, The Blob remake was released. Part horror, part governmental conspiracy theory film, it is revealed that the Blob is the result of a biological warfare experiment during the Cold War. It was launched into space due to the inability for anyone or anything to control it. The issue was thought to be solved… until the Blob crashed back to Earth.
Opposite of the original, the 1988 installment received favourable reviews but performed poorly. The screenplay was written by Chuck Russell and Frank Darabont, both who co-wrote A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors with Wes Craven and Bruce Wagner.
The 1988 The Blob remake was first released on DVD on of all days, September 11, 2001.
With the movie industry being so unoriginal and cyclical in nature, there is (of course) another The Blob remake in the works.
When it comes to The Blob inspired tattoos, I found but two decent ones, both which are vastly different in style and concept. For your own The Blob tattoo, you could choose to have the Blob consuming a character, the Blob in the sewer or the movie theatre, the Blob secured in a glass jar, or some weird and wacky idea you concoct.
Which of the three The Blob movies in the franchise is your favourite?
