On October 1st, 2020 Abbie Hoskin posted her very first tattoo on Instagram, a black and grey flower she tattooed on herself. In the five years since, Hoskin has amassed a following of almost 30,000, sharing the tattoos she produces at Kirinki, a private studio in Cornwall, England, or during conventions and guest spots at other shops.
When going through the entirety of Hoskin’s Instagram profile, the letter S just kept popping up in terms of the content of her work: Scream, Sanderson sisters (Hocus Pocus), Sailor Moon, Stitch (Disney’s Lilo and Stitch), singers, Stranger Things, Sanrio, sweet snacks, The Simpsons characters, Smithers from The Simpsons, spoopy imagery, SpongeBob SquarePants, Scooby-Doo, Sky Dancers, seashells, Studio Ghibli, scorpions, Steamboat Willie, sakura (cherry blossoms) – many which you’ll find as you scroll through this TAP.
Hoskin’s work, of course, is more than just my brain seeing all things S. Nostalgia and pop culture references are a common occurrence, along with foods and toys, mainly in colour, but also black and grey, in her bold, traditional-esque style.
